Best Root Rider Attack Strategies for Hard Mode (ESL) Wars

Best Root Rider Attack Strategies for Hard Mode (ESL) Wars

Root Riders are still OP in Hard Mode. These 4 attack strategies show you how to funnel, time spells, and crush bases without needing pixel-perfect planning.

Why Root Riders is the Best Town Hall 17 Troop

Root Riders are everywhere at Town Hall 17, not just in Legends or Clan Wars but also in Hard Mode wars. We watch replays and it’s the same story. Riders stomp. Bases cry.

They’ve been nerfed. Twice. Maybe more. Still the most used troop when paired with the right heroes, equipment, spells, and a clean plan. Honestly though, spam can work. We didn’t say that.

There are tons of RR variations. We picked the top 4 that hold up across HM war bases. Even tight trap setups and sweaty anti-RR layouts. Cool? Cool.

▶️ Best Root Rider Attack Strategies for Hard Mode Wars

There isn’t one perfect army. HM wars throw different base styles at us. Rings. Boxes. Off-center TH. Tricky core.

Here’s the thing. These four RRs cover most shapes. We give a quick what-and-why, then the how. Short. Playable. No fluff.

1. RR + Queen Charge Smash

Why it works: The Queen removes key defenses and sets a highway for the Riders. Great into boxed cores and awkward Town Hall angles. Safe. Repeatable. We pretend it’s easy. It’s not.

How to execute:

  • Entry: Start Queen + 4–5 Healers toward high value. Aim for TH or Eagle. Use Rage early. Coco Loons to pull traps.

  • Funnel: Opposite side with Baby Dragon/Yeti. Keep it small. We want a straight lane.

  • Send it: Drop Root Riders + King + Warden into the gap. Use Jump or Wall Breakers to touch core.

  • Spells: Freeze Infernos and Scattershots. Rage the first 8–10 tiles of the push. Poison for CC.

  • RC timing: Drop Royal Champion on the back end to pick Scatters or X-Bows. Pop ability when Riders meet splash.
Check yourself: If Queen pathing goes weird, Recall or wall open and reset. Don’t chase. Let the army win, not your ego.

2. RR + Warden Walk Hybrid

Why it works: The Warden Walk removes a corner with zero drama. Then Riders punch the core while Miners + Hogs sweep the sides. Think sandwich. A very angry sandwich.

How to execute:

  • Walk: Warden + Healers on a safe corner. Take 40 to 60 seconds. Pick off a Scatter or key anchor.

  • Core push: Riders + King into the middle. Log Launcher if walls are stacked. Battle Drill if core is tight.

  • Sweepers: From the side, release Miners + Hogs once Riders lock the core. Keep them close. Not overlapping.

  • Spells: Heal over giant splash zones. Freeze Scatters or Multi Infernos on the Riders. Save one Rage for a scary core.

  • Abilities: Warden on first big damage spike. RC cleans late.
Common fail: Starting Hybrid too early. Wait till the Riders actually own the lane.

3. RR + LavaLoon Support

Why it works: Riders crush ground targets. LavaLoon deletes back-end defenses and awkward edges. Great vs rings and cores that stall ground. Weird combo, but so is pineapple on pizza. We like both. Sometimes.

How to execute:

  • Core: Riders + King + Warden straight at TH or Eagle. Keep path tight with small funnels.

  • Air wing: On the opposite edge, send Lava Hounds then Balloons in waves. Snipe Arrows... sorry, Archer Towers, Cannons can wait.

  • Spells: Freeze core threats on Riders. Haste/Rage for Balloons to jump pockets. Poison for CC if needed.

  • Sync: Start air once Riders are past first Inferno layer. If you go too soon, it fizzles. Too late, you time fail.
Note: Don’t dump all Loons at once. Layer them like nachos. Crunchy. Effective.

4. RR + Electro Titan Push

Why it works: Electro Titans erase Skellies and Ice Golem stalls. They escort the Riders so the push never slows. Best into trap-heavy cores and nasty Skelly Donut bait.

How to execute:

  • Front line: 2–3 Titans + Healers as the screen. Add Warden with them or on Riders, not both.

  • Funnel: King + Siege Barracks on the short side to keep everything central.

  • Main push: Riders through the gut. If walls are chunky, Log Launcher. If TH is deep, Stone Slammer is a no.

  • Spells: Rage early to get momentum. Freeze Scatters and Monolith. Invis if your path gets scuffed.

  • Cleanup: RC for back-end singles or X-Bows. Drop Minions late, not early.
Reality check: It looks like brute force, but timing still matters. Pop Warden at the first real burst, not on a Tesla.

Questions

RC Walk Root Riders is best for Regular Wars or Legends. But for ESL Wars, Queen Charge Smash is the most reliable Root Rider attack, but Titan Push and Hybrid also shine depending on base design.

Yes. Even after nerfs, Root Riders are still the most used and effective troop in Hard Mode wars when paired with the right heroes and spells.
