TH15 Upgrade Guide 2026: What to Upgrade First

TH15 has 500+ days of upgrade, but this guide covers only what's needed, the exact upgrade order to follow either way, & includes bases for ALL formats.

Hey Chief,

Town Hall 15 is a turning point — it's the first Town Hall in a while where magic items finally start paying off again, pets get genuinely worth investing in, and the choices you make early shape how smooth the rest of your account's progression feels. Done right, you can be through TH15 in under two months. Done carelessly, it'll eat closer to four.

This guide breaks down exactly what to prioritize at TH15 — buildings, heroes, pets, lab, leagues, and resources — so you spend your time on upgrades that actually move you forward.

Should You Rush or Max at TH15?

At Town Hall 15, clear everything available before progressing, or focus on what matters most and move on sooner.

The case for rushing hasn't changed — time and resources are worth more at higher Town Halls than they are here. Every extra week spent finishing out TH15 in full is a week of slower league climbs, slower CWL medal gains, and slower ore farming. That said, TH15 is a little more forgiving on this front than most Town Halls, since two of the upgrades here actually reward patience instead of punishing it — more on that next.

Building Upgrade Priority at TH15

TH15 has a massive amount available — north of 500 days worth of upgrades if you're chasing full, perfect completion. Almost nobody needs that much to function well here. A focused priority approach cuts that down dramatically, getting you through the upgrades that actually matter for offense and progression in a fraction of the time.

Stage Focus
Priority 1 Offensive upgrades, pets, army capacity, and core progression buildings
Priority 2 TH15 signature defenses (Spell Towers and Monoliths)
Priority 3 Major defensive upgrades
Priority 4 Supporting defenses and storage requirements
Priority 5 Town Hall weapon and Air Defenses while progressing
Optional Convenience upgrades that can wait until later

A few things worth knowing before you start:

  • Magic items finally have a home here. For the first time in several Town Halls, there are upgrades worth spending Books on — specifically anything running 12 days or longer. If you're forced to use a Book of Building or Book of Fighting, save it for one of those longer upgrades rather than burning it on something short.
  • Storages can wait. If your storages were already maxed at TH14, you're sitting on enough gold and elixir to cover TH16 upgrades without touching storage again — so there's a case for skipping storage upgrades entirely at this stage and circling back once you've got time to spare at a higher Town Hall. Dark Elixir storage is the exception; a couple of key upgrades a few Town Halls out require more than what's currently capped, so that one's worth keeping current.
  • Some buildings are optional, not required. The Workshop and Hero Hall don't need to be a priority if you're not actively using Siege Machines or upgrading heroes — skip them for now and pick them back up later if your approach changes.
  • Maxers: the priority order still applies to you — it's not about skipping anything, just sequencing what gives you the most value first.

Hero Upgrades — Which Path Should You Take?

Heroes are intentionally left out of the building priority above, because — like every Town Hall — they deserve a separate decision.

Maxing every hero at TH15 takes around 210 days on its own. That's a significant chunk of time sitting at one Town Hall, and it comes at the cost of slower progress everywhere else.

Priority Hero Reason
1 Royal Champion One of the strongest heroes at TH15, gains 10 valuable levels
2 Grand Warden Ability remains critical for every major army
3 Archer Queen Strong hero for funnels and hero dives
4 Minion Prince Significant upgrade potential with 10 levels
5 Barbarian King Useful tank but lower priority than RC and GW

There are three common approaches here:

  1. Max all heroes. The slowest option. Reasonable if you're not in a hurry, but it'll noticeably extend your time at this Town Hall.
  2. Skip heroes entirely and lean on Hero and Power Potions to keep performing well in war and ranked leagues. This is the fastest route — the only real cost is missing out on the free Book of Heroes from the season pass each month, which is a small trade-off for the time saved.
  3. Upgrade a single hero — the Royal Champion is the strongest pick here, since her upgrade times stretch out quickly, which means better value from any Book of Heroes you do use.

Options 2 and 3 are the better picks if speed matters to you. Option 1 is fine if you're not pushing for efficiency.

Pets at TH15 — What's Actually Worth Upgrading?

TH15 is genuinely exciting on the pet front. Out of the four pets available at this Town Hall, three are worth long-term investment — only the Poison Lizard falls short of that bar.

Order Pet Why Upgrade It?
1 Unicorn Remains one of the strongest and most versatile pets in the game
2 Phoenix Gives heroes a second life and is valuable in almost every strategy
3 Diggy Excellent stun ability, especially with the Royal Champion
4 Frosty Great support pet that slows defenses and adds consistent value

Each pet runs roughly 38 days per level to upgrade, which adds up fast across multiple pets. Don't feel pressured to have everything fully maxed before Town Hall 16— there aren't many more pets coming after this Town Hall, so it's fine to make steady progress and let it carry over rather than letting it slow down your overall timeline.

Lab Upgrades — What to Research First

TH15's lab is deep — close to 283 days worth of upgrades in total. As with every Town Hall, the smart move is picking one or two armies you'll actually use consistently rather than spreading upgrades across everything available.

Dragons and Electro Dragons remain a strong, low-maintenance pick — they don't require a ton of upgrades to stay effective and continue to perform well here.

Lab / Troop Upgrade Priority: TH15 Upgrade Guide

TH15 also introduces the Root Rider, which has a notably light upgrade requirement of its own, though you'll want your Healers reasonably leveled to get the most out of it.

If your buildings end up taking longer than your lab upgrades at some point (which becomes more common at higher Town Halls), that extra time is a good opportunity to circle back and round out your army further.

Order Upgrade
1 Dragon
2 Electro Dragon
3 Root Rider
4 Healer
5 Wall Breaker
6 Skeleton Spell

If you'd rather follow a specific, proven attack instead of building your own composition from scratch, the best TH15 attack strategies covers armies that perform well at this Town Hall and pairs naturally with the troops worth prioritizing here.

Ranked Leagues at TH15 — Where You Should Be + New Ranked Bases

The league floor for TH15 is Witch League II, and the sweet spot to aim for sits somewhere between high Witch League and low Golem League — achievable without excessive pushing, while still unlocking a solid loot bonus.

If you're rushing, it's worth not stressing too much about exact league placement. You'll be moving through Town Halls quickly enough that climbing again later is easy.

What matters more is using your Hero and Power Potions during ranked attacks whenever possible — stacking both at once noticeably improves your results and makes the climb smoother.

This is also where your base does a lot of quiet work. A strong base makes climbing easier and keeps you from sliding back down between sessions — which means a bigger bonus and easier loot for every upgrade ahead.

🎁 If pushes keep ending badly, the NEW Ranked Mode Bases is worth a look.

CWL Medals + New CWL Bases To Get More Medals

A 30v30 lineup is the better choice whenever it's available — it improves your odds of getting into the lineup at all, evens out matchups, and takes some of the pressure off individual wins.

Most TH15 accounts land somewhere between Gold I and Crystal League for CWL. That's a realistic, comfortable target for the majority of players at this stage. As always, doubling up on Hero and Power Potions during CWL attacks pays off significantly.

Your defense matters just as much as your attacks here. Holding your base means your clan wins more rounds, which means more medals — and more medals means more magic items to put toward faster upgrades down the line.

🎁If your base keeps folding during CWL, New CWL Bases is built specifically to hold up better.

Raid Medals — Best Use at TH15

Raid medal spending at TH15 comes down to two priorities, and which one applies depends on your hero approach.

If you're skipping hero upgrades, Hero Potions should be the main thing you're buying — they're what makes the skip-heroes strategy work in the first place, and running out of them undercuts your performance everywhere.

For everyone else, ore is the priority — specifically Starry Ore first, then Glowing Ore, then Shiny Ore. Ore remains one of the tightest bottlenecks in the game right now, with no potions or shortcuts to speed it up, which makes it worth prioritizing over secondary options like research potions or clock tower potions for most players.

Gems and Magic Items — What to Prioritize

If you're still missing any of your five builders, that comes first, no exceptions.

After that, the right move depends on your playstyle:

  • Free-to-play or missing key equipment? Save gems toward meta equipment — this is the highest-impact use of gems for players without consistent spending power.
  • Playing consistently and spending occasionally? Helpers are a strong long-term investment, though the payoff takes time to materialize, so they're best suited to players confident they'll stick around.
  • Not sure which path fits, or want flexibility? Hold gems for an event like Hammer Jam or Summer Jam and put them toward the Goblin Builder — these events consistently offer some of the best value available for that purchase.

As for shop purchases: the Gold Pass isn't a strong pick at TH15 specifically, since the magic items it includes won't get great value given how few upgrades at this Town Hall benefit from them. The same logic applies to shop deals built around Books — better to wait and save magic items for a Town Hall where the longer timers make them worth it. Builder Potions and Research Potions, on the other hand, are worth grabbing whenever they show up.

How to Upgrade Your TH15 Even Faster

Every upgrade you want to speed run at TH15 runs on the same fuel — loot and magic items. And both of those come back to one thing: your base.

A strong ranked base helps you climb and stay climbed, which means bigger bonus loot for less effort every single session. A strong CWL base holds the line for your clan, which means more wins, more medals, and more magic items to throw at your next upgrade.

The problem is most "free" bases floating around online don't hold up. They're public, scouted to death, and built for a meta that's already moved on by the time you copy them in.

The TH15 Base Pack fixes all of that:

  • 🛡️ Bases for War, CWL, and Ranked — all in one pack
  • 🔄 New bases every month, built around the current meta
  • 🏆 Designed by top players, not pulled from public uploads
  • 🔒 Limited access, so opponents aren't seeing the same base everywhere

Questions

It depends on your priorities. Rushing means focusing only on the upgrades that boost offense and speed, then moving to the next Town Hall sooner. Maxing means completing every available upgrade before progressing. Rushing generally gets you to better leagues, loot, and medals faster, while maxing suits players who aren't in a hurry.

Three of the four pets unlocked at TH15 are worth long-term investment — only the Poison Lizard falls short. Each pet takes roughly 38 days per level to upgrade, so it's fine to make gradual progress rather than rushing to max them all before TH16.

If you're not maxing all heroes, the Royal Champion is the best single hero to prioritize at TH15, since her upgrade times stretch out quickly, giving better value from any Book of Heroes you use. Many players skip heroes entirely and rely on Hero Potions instead.
