Best Pet Upgrade Guide Every Clash Player Needs

Best Pet Upgrade Guide Every Clash Player Needs

Upgrading every pet is a trap. This Pet Upgrade Guide breaks down the smartest upgrade order so your heroes survive longer and your attacks feel easier.

▶️ Pets Can Make or Break a 3-Star

Pets used to feel like cosmetic sidekicks.
Now? They decide triples. Honestly though, we ignored them longer than we should’ve.

We’ve wasted Dark Elixir on the wrong pets.
We’ve maxed Lassie once. Once.
Never again.

So yeah, this is our Pet Upgrade Guide.
Simple. Opinionated. Slightly biased. Very useful.

If you’re short on DE, time, or patience (same), this is how we’d upgrade pets without regretting life choices.

Let’s start where pets actually matter — TH14

At Town Hall 14, pets finally enter the chat.
You unlock Unicorn, Electro Owl, Mighty Yak, and Lassie.

Some are cracked.
Some are… emotional support pets.

🥇 Unicorn — yes, first. Always.

If you skip Unicorn, we can’t help you.

It’s basically a healer that never gets distracted.
Queen walks become queen strolls.
She lives longer. Pushes deeper. Gets more value.

We’ve tried other pets first.
Didn’t feel right.
Came back crawling to Unicorn.

Max this first. No debate.

🥈 Electro Owl — sneaky good

Flying pet. Long range. Chill damage.

Paired with Warden or Minion Prince, it just… stays alive.
Keeps zapping.
Doesn’t cause drama.

It’s not flashy, but it scales well into higher THs. Worth the upgrades.

🗑️ Mighty Yak & Lassie — skip without guilt

Yak breaks walls.
So do Super Wall Breakers. Better.

Lassie runs ahead like an NPC with main character energy.
Pulls CCs. Triggers heroes. Ruins plans.

If you’re moving to TH15 soon, leave both at level 1.
Your Dark Elixir deserves better.

TH15 — this is where pets turn broken

Town Hall 15 pets are… different.
This is when attacks start feeling unfair. In a good way.

You unlock Frosty, Phoenix, Diggy, and Poison Lizard.

🥇 Frosty — value machine

Slow effect.
Mites that tank.
Heroes live longer.

King with Frosty feels illegal.
Queen with Frosty feels immortal (almost).

Max this first. We’re serious.

🥈 Phoenix — clutch is an understatement

Your hero dies.
Then doesn’t.

Those few revive seconds?
They turn 95% attacks into triples.

We’ve won wars because of Phoenix.
We’ve lost wars without it.
Enough said.

🥉 Diggy — underrated stun merchant

Diggy tunnels.
Diggy stuns.
Diggy bullies Monoliths and Infernos.

It’s not flashy, but when it works, it really works.
Solid third priority.

😐 Unicorn & Owl — still usable, not urgent

Unicorn still slaps with queen walks.
Owl still helps air armies.

But compared to Frosty and Phoenix?
They feel… optional.

Upgrade them if you’re staying at TH15.
Otherwise, don’t stress.

🗑️ Poison Lizard, Yak, Lassie — same story

Poison Lizard sounds cool.
Plays mid.

Yak and Lassie are still Yak and Lassie.
Moving on.

TH16 — okay, this pet changes everything

Two new pets .
One of them is absurd.

🥇 Spirit Fox — best pet in the game, no contest

Temporary invisibility.
Short cooldown.
Works with almost every hero.

Royal Champion charges go crazy.
Queen survives stuff she absolutely shouldn’t.

If you max one pet at Town Hall 16, it’s this.
If you max two, still this first.

Honestly, it feels like cheating.
And yeah, we’re okay with that.

🥈 Angry Jelly — weird, niche, powerful

Forces heroes to target defenses only.

Sounds odd.
Plays insane in the right hands.

Warden fireball charges.
King solo compartments.
Pathing control when things get messy.

Not universal. Still very strong.

TH17 — the new kid (with issues)

You unlock Sneezy at Town Hall 17.
And yeah, it’s… interesting.

🤧 Sneezy — chaos with benefits

Spawns little distractions.
Soaks damage.
Messes with traps.

Air attacks love it.
Healer-heavy armies love it.

After the hero dies, Sneezy goes feral and starts smashing defenses.

Balance changes nerf part of it.
Still good. Still worth upgrading.

If everything is level 1 — what do we max first?

Let’s be brutally honest.
Here’s how we’d rank pets from worst to best overall.

Bottom tier (ignore unless bored):

  • Lassie

  • Mighty Yak

  • Poison Lizard

Mid tier (situational):

  • Electro Owl

  • Unicorn

  • Diggy

High value zone:

  • Angry Jelly

  • Frosty

  • Sneezy

Top tier, no-brainers:

  • Phoenix

  • Spirit Fox

Spirit Fox sits alone at the top.
Phoenix right behind it.
Everyone else is fighting for third place.

Quick guide — if you just want the answer

  • TH14: Unicorn → Electro Owl → ignore the rest

  • TH15: Frosty → Phoenix → Diggy

  • TH16: Spirit Fox → Angry Jelly

  • TH17: Sneezy (still high priority)

  • Short on DE? Skip Lassie, Yak, Poison Lizard

  • Competitive player? Max Fox + Phoenix ASAP

  • Queen walk enjoyer? Unicorn still matters

That’s it.
No perfect order. No one-size-fits-all.
But if you follow this Pet Upgrade Guide, you won’t feel like you wasted months of Dark Elixir.

And yeah… we still regret maxing Lassie that one time.
Don’t be us.

Questions

The Unicorn at TH14 and the Spirit Fox at higher Town Halls are the best first upgrades due to their huge impact on hero survival.

The Spirit Fox is considered the strongest pet due to its invisibility ability and usefulness across many strategies.

Only key pets should be maxed. Strong pets carry value forward, while weaker pets can be ignored if you’re upgrading Town Halls quickly.
